How to redesign a SaaS product without breaking what works
The temptation is always there: scrap the old design, start fresh, launch the ‘new version’ all at once. It’s exciting. It feels decisive. And it almost always goes wrong.
Instead of redesigning everything at once, we work in phases. Each phase targets a specific user problem and delivers a measurable improvement.
Start with research, not mockups
Before we design anything, we talk to users. Five user interviews and a session recording review can surface patterns that change the entire direction of a redesign.
Use feature flags. Roll out changes to a subset of users first. The goal isn’t a dramatic before-and-after. It’s a product that gets better every month.
